CHECK your dipstick
B7 owners...while pampering and cleaning my engine was checking the oil. The plastic that has the O ring on it near the top of the dipstick was cracked and broken. Guess due to the heat of the turbo...worth checking your dipstick out. sorry no picture but can only guess that plastic isnt good ending up in the oil pump.

Thanks! Just disappointed in the quality control...this IMO should NOT happen..something wrong with plastic mix...sure audi engineers were smart enough to have the right plastic on the drawings with the dipstick, just guess the manufacturer of the dipstick messed something up or engineers have modified the plastic mix/composition to last longer???

After reading the thread, decided to inspect mine closely. I noticed the cracking on mine below the O-ring... then the pieces fell off in my hand!
Very worth checking..thanks for the heads up.
Ordered a new one.. about $26 shipped.

Manufacturers need screaming at, by large majorities to take notice, even then, more often then not, they still remain deaf and dumb, not quite the 'customer is king' scenario is it?

I barely cought the pieces before they fell in the hole. Be assured if they fall in you may be in serious trouble and your filter will not pick up these larger chunks.

i disagree. it's the smaller particulates that pass through the filter, not larger pieces. the pieces from the dipstick won't be small enough to pass through the filter.

I agree the larger pieces won't get picked up at the oil pump because of the pick up tube screen. If the smaller flakes do manage to get past they will get caught by the filter. The larger stuff will sit in the pan and maybe over time come out during an oil change. This is a no brainer to worry about. Replace the stick and get on with life.
