pull the dipstick and check your oil level.

if the level is ok, you probably just have a bad sensor. Your car should be fine to drive as long as there is sufficient oil in it. If not, well then add some. I would seriously doubt that your neighbor has anything to do with the light coming on (though not outside the realm of possibility, just HIGHLY improbable)

Not sure where the sensor is, but if out in the open they could have unplugged it (although I agree highly unlikely). Check you oil level and if ok find where the sensor is and make sure it isn't unplugged. Someone know where it is located?

if the sensor failed wouldn't the CEL be on? the warning light shown is for low oil level. he just needs to top it up on a level driveway.

check the oil level and top up as needed.

I believe the low oil sensor is located in the oil pan opposite the drain plug. You need to get under the car and remove the plastic shield and it is easy to see and remove. I doubt that is the problem. So when you looked in your OM and found the symbol what did it tell you to do?

Mine states:

1. Call credit card company and confirm available credit balance
2. Schedule repair with dealer

How tech smart is your neighbor? Most are not that smart so they wouldn't think of something like this.
