Default Car go boom

Well my 85,000 mile A4 had something major fail. Its at the dealer now to be diagnosed. Wife was driving and the oil pressure light came on and clackity clack sound followed with total loss of power. Funny thing is my CPO runs out in March so I will be fine.

We shall know by today or tomorrow what broke. I was thinking t-belt or cam follower but we shall see.

Yikes. Keep us posted what the issue is.

I'm at 48K. I'm off to buy the extended warranty :-)

Is this related to the CAM follower issue? I mean, would replacing it every 40K as they say prevent this?

Recently there was another thread where a CVT went bust after 58K miles, yours is
CVT too. Is CVT the culprit?

Mine was not a cam follower under the fuel pump but I asked them to check that as well. They said today I am getting a new head. There was no metal in the oil pan but if there was, I would have gotton a new engine they said. This is not related to the CVT as this is not a tranny issue. I've had no tranny problems. I will be trading it in very soon as well since i'm out of warranty after this.

Default here goes the old guy with the damn back in the day story

I agree with Esandes. Why trade now? The cam failure was probably due to a casting defect and not indicitive of future trouble. These things happen. Back in the late 60's and early 70's, GM had some surface hardening woes on small block chevy cams, and I believe it happened again in the early 80's. The point is, once the cam was replaced the engines went on running forever. Manufacturing errors happen, and if Audi is picking up the tab on this I'd say your being treated well.

I've had a few "issues" with my Audi, but in the end, it still drives sweet, has great brakes, pulls my fat a** through every snow storm we've had here in New England this year, and we have had some biggies. Add to that the fact that I'm getting 26+MPG while doing about 80 MPH most of the time and all of a sudden the Audi looks pretty good.

Good luck what ever you decide to do.

I do not want to own a german car without warranty. Thats how I roll. Looking at getting a Merc C300 as soon as this car is out of the shop. Anybody want a 85k mile 2005.5 B7 with FWD and CVT for just a hair above Trade in? FIgure someone should get the deal rather that the dealer.

I ain't mad at ya. I'm the same way. I love throwin mods on my 09 2.0T but when major $hit happens I like it to be covered and fixed, so I can go back to doing more upgrades (in the shadows of the warranty).

Any of you been able to find a Forge diverter and spacer for under $240?
