Buying Used A4, Questions
I am wanting to purchase a used a4 2.0t, currently my price range allows me to get a 06 a4 with around 40-45k miles. Just wondering if this is a good idea or am i going to get into any issues quickly? Also looking for things (if any) to look out for when getting one. I am also wanting to chip it, not sure if it is recommended for higher mileage or not. Thanks for any help

I just bought an '06 A4 quattro with 35k miles on it. I love the car.
At 40-45k miles, a car like this still has a LOT of life in it.
I'd hold off on the chip until you get a good feel for the car and any issues it might have (I'm going to wait a year or so).

Like all cars, the A4 does have its particular issues. One of the most expensive is the cam follower failure. Those who have reported failures, have had them at lower and higher mileages. I bought mine a 35,000 miles and it now has 51,000 miles. I love the car. It handles well like the Jetta I use to have, and has quattro to boot. I live in a very snowy area, and the car is unbelievable in the snow. Get a CPO otherwise you could get stuck with some expensive bills. I don't know much about chipping, but some people seem to think that chipping can accelerate the cam follower wear.

Yes the CAM follower is covered by the CPO (with $85 deductible). I just bought my 07 with 25k miles on it and I had the CAM follower inspected and replaced - the shop said if they are in there inspecting, its just as easy to replace as the part is inexpensive.
These are great cars overall and you should be able to get some good deals.
One bit of advice: Ask to see the "300 point inspection checklist" and then pick a few items just to ensure the checklist was not pencil-whipped. On mine, I swear a few of the easy items were not even looked at - like the windshield wipers. I negotiated pretty hard after a few of the misses.
