Buying a car with 140k?
Let me start by saying Im not asking what are common problems
So giving my financial situation Im looking to buy a car around $9-14k. I found a pretty good deal on a 07 a4 2.0t 6m quattro. I understand what "to look for" because I used the sticky. However what I am wondering is how is the longevity of this car. I'm probably going to use it for my commute for the next 2 yrs. then upgrade. Would I be better spending more for a car with 80-90k mi. They are about the top limit of my price range. I understand maintenance goes along way and the higher mileage car has just had timing belts, water pump and oil changes done regularly. Let me know if you have and advice
Thanks.

Is AWD important to you? If not than don't buy an Audi or as suggest the used Honda, Toyota, etc... Spend the $10k and get a base model new car with full warranty (Kia, Hyundia, Chevy, Ford). Then you won't have to worry about anything.
If the Audi has been cared for and the services kept up to date the engine should go 200+K with little issue. There will also be other repairs and services and with any car that can be inexpensive to expensive. Buying a used car is a crap shot. You might get a great one (my Audi has been one of those) or you could get the money pit. Best of luck to you.

I don't think mileage is an issue unless the car hasn't been maintained, I bought mine with 130K and up to about 155K now and I plan to have this car well over 500K, that may seem high but with proper care it will not be a problem..My 01 jetta had 365K before I bought the audi and the only reason I bought an A4 was because I put the front end into the back of a Honda CRV on the highway, otherwise it would have hit 500K as planned... If you are looking just for a couple years then I would look for something low mileage as it does have a high impact on resale value, so it you buy it with 140K and go to sell it in a couple years with over 200K you will take more of a hit then a lower mileage car

I would not touch a german car over 100k (not that they are unreliable, just expensive to fix). As stated it is a crapshoot as who knows what proper maintainence has been done. If you have to have an Audi get a B6.
I personally am rough on my cars and trade them in by 100k. If you got my B6 or B7 I have traded god help you. Don't get one if you are binded financially too hard.

So if the car comes with all paperwork, receipts, service records, how do you not know what has been done? Bottom line is, 100K or 10K or 500K, german cars all cost the same to fix no matter what your mileage is, the cost of parts doesn't change and anyone who buys one should know the cost of part before buying the car...I don't agree with that statement because I think it is all relative, if I can put 200K on my car before changing a single ball joint and my friend who owns a ford has to change his at 100K say my part cost twice as much is it really that much more expensive? I honestly believe that you get what you pay for and part of what you are paying for is quality parts and engineering. Cheers!

my cars have over 60,000 miles each and they drive as good as the day i drove them off the lots. i expect them to last a lot longer with no issues either.
i'd check to make sure the that the car was properly maintained.
