Default Any ideas on this one? Battery draining....

2006 A4

I have had no issues with my Audi until recently, and all I can say that has changed is that it is getting cold at night and in the AM. But if I let my car sit for more than a day undriven, the battery is completely dead. In fact, sometimes when I come out to drive my other car, after letting the Audi sit - I notice that the BRAKE LIGHTS ARE ON, and I open the car, tap the pedal, and they go off. I cannot tell how long they have been on, or why, but my battery is dead.

Also - it appears NOT to have this problem when I lock the car. If it's unlocked, and sits, the battery goes.

I had it at the dealership and they could not find anything wrong (switches, battery, etc) so I'm at a loss. Taking it back to them today, getting a loaner, and letting them reproduce the problem.

Any ideas - other than LOCK THE CAR?

Thanks!

there could be a malfunction in the "halo" mode.......ok that so right by your main car head light switch to the right are two ***** one sayd DRL the other is a picture.....the picture **** may be turned on.....this means that whenever your get out of the ur car and shut the door the headlights and brake lights go on (when correctly they last 30 seconds then everything turns off)

so possibly there is a malfunction with that **** that doesn;t reconize when 30 seconds is up

with ur problem mcdeisil, i would guess that someone attached the AMP remote turn on wire to the wrong source and that your amp was on even after u turned ur car off which would kill a battery faster then steve irwin in a tank of sting rays

same problem here. Came out to car with dead battery after couple of days of not driving. Figured battery was going so replaced with new OEM replacement. Next morning came out to see brake lights on but no other lights on. Tapped on brakes and lights went out. Week later another dead battery after not driving for 2 days. Jump started and after hour of running battery showed more than 13 volts. Next day come home to see car sitting there with brake lights on once again. I know they were off when i left it so cant figure why there coming on by themselves. Any help appreciated.

I'm having the exact same issue with my 2004 A4! After waking up in the morning I notice they were on. I have even checked after getting home to make sure they were off but still they tend to come on somehow over night. Yesterday my battery was drained as a result.

Anyone found a solution or source to this issue yet???

This happened to me last winter. Faulty brake light switch. It only happened every so often so it was hard to pin down.

I'm seeing something similar recently. After parking for few hours, I have to crank it longer to
get it started (like turn the key and hold it for a while before it starts). Pretty sure the
battery is going.

Since last month, I had the other problem where the child window lock switch(in the driver window
panel) came on permanently. The folks at the back can't operate the window unless it is kept pressed
from the driver window. This light stays on for a while after the car is turned off and locked.

Don't know if this is causing the battery drain, or the battery is actually nearing end of
life(am at 55K miles, 4 years)? What is the average battery life for the OEM ones?

My window switch has been like that for over a year and it hasn't affected my battery (I rarely have people back there other than my kids, so I don't really care to spend the $250 to fix it just yet). That's not enough juice to be concerned with. 4 years is a pretty good battery life for most cars. Sounds like it's just normal wear and tear to me.
