Default am I screwed? cam follower :(

I just inspected the cam follower on my a4 I purchased 3 weeks ago. The follower is done but my question is if the camshaft is also toast?

im not a mechanic but its doesnt seem too horrible yet. def. check with an audi dealer cuz they did extend the warranty on that part. maybe you can negotiate something with them

I got an appointment with audi and I asked about that warranty. They said bring it in a we'll check it and if it falls under that tsb we'll cover it at no charge. But I gotta wait till wednesday. I was thinking about just putting in the new follower but that would just introdruce more metal shavings into system. I printed out a copy of the tsb in case they wanna beat around the bush. I got 6 month warranty so I wont be paying anything either way but you know stealerships always wanna make things harder than they're suppose to be.

absolutly leave it alone. If you mess with it, Audi may give you grief. I believe the bad parts have to be sent in. If you replace the follower you could cause yourself trouble. With the 120,000 mile warranty on the parts, they will replace them without trouble. Mine was totally catastrophic when the car finally threw codes, and Audi took care of everything. I ended up with an entire new top of the engine at 108,000 miles. New fuel pump, intake and exhaust cams, as well as a totally new head. The metal shrapnel went everywhere trashing the top of the engine.

Yeah I didnt mess with it I put everything back together how it was. If I tell them to inspect those parts will they still do it even if it hasnt thrown any codes?

idk bout that, maybe if you are lucky. I asked my local dealer awhile ago when the TSB came out and they said they only check if you have a CEL or problems related to it .

Well I think they'll inspect it if you tell them to. You just have to pay the inspection fee. The dude said they'll take a look at the issue and if the follower or whatever components are bad then They'll replace it under that warranty and waive the inspection fee
