Default A4's automatic transmission

Hey everyone

I'm purchasing an '06+ A4 soon, I have heard mixed views on the automatic transmission, I know CVT is bad so it's out of the question.

Have you guys experienced any issues with the regular automatic transmission? Should I hands down stick with a manual transmission?

Thanks

I purchased an 08 CVT A4 2.0 ,not real impressed with just the initial take off, (like the first split second) but other than that,it works great, pulls hard, keeps the engine right in the peak torque power band.

Over all, IMO ,,it's pretty cool tapping through the paddle shifters,7 ranges (not gears I guess)

I am just waiting for another APR sale on chipping,, because it really helps w/the take off from what I was told.

Seat of the pants feel,,,,my 08 feels stronger than my 04.5 Jetta GLI 6 spd that had Neuspeed chip, cat removed, downpipe, straight through back muffler, K&N ,Neuspeed ,turbo inlet pipe,Neuspeed pipe just before the intercooler, 4 bar FPR & custom cold air /ram air system.

And the 04.5 Jetta was a lighter car than an A4 ,but the engine was also just a 1.8 180 HP engine stock. I was told w/the Neuspeed chip, the output should have been 210 HP.

A lot of times just by driving a manual trans car,,,it feels faster because the car & passengers are being tossed around from a stick shift,,I am sure the manual trans is faster but I'd like to see the difference between a tiptronic,CVT & 6 spd trans cars from a rolling start.,,,It should be interesting.!!!

Consider an A3 if you will. DSG tranny is sweet and you will be in love. If you are stuck on the A4 go with a manual as I believe most auto's are CVT at least the FWD cars are for sure.

Quattro autos are tiptronic, which is conventional automatic, not the CVT.

i have the quattro auto w/ tiptronic and i like it alot. the only people who complain about the lack of 1st gear are the heavy feets.
