Not sure about CVT, but in the Tiptonic auto the "S" changes the shift points to hold the gear a little longer giving better performace. You can also up and down shift by using the paddles. The shifter can also be used. Put is back into normal to leave it up to the car for shifting.

I didn't think the CVT had that, but could be wrong.

Default transmissions for dummies ?

hey whats up guys,

ive always wondered, are all automatic audi a4 b7's CVT? or just some, because i have an automatic audi a4 b7 sline and it has P, R, N , D, S then you could move it to the left and SHIFT MANUALLY , and you have the PADDLE SHIFTERS.

-i thought a CVT TRANSmission was a tranny that didnt shift??? remember that nissan maxima commercial a few years ago when the couple is in the car their cvt trans doesnt shift, so the guy makes the shiftin noise for it.... either way my question is what is a CVT TRANSMISSION, ??? i know it stands for CONTIONOUS VARIABLE TRANS or something like that? curious for answers . thanks guys

CVT tranny only came in FWD cars. Tiptronic in AWD cars. Both have the sport and manual shift. Sport or manual makes it shift like a normal tranny when in drive you never feel a shift point. It feels like if you were taking off in a manual but fully slipping the clutch and barely moving while keeping the revs constantly at say 4k rpm. Your RPM may vary obvoiusly.

I could never get used to it. My wife liked it. It was quicker in sport or manual mode for sure.

Yes, it will shift by itself. You can use the paddle shifters when ever you want. If you have the trans in "D" or "S" and use the paddle shifters after a little while of not changing gears it will go back into auto mode. I don't use mine, but played with the paddles when I first got the car. I ended up moving the shifter into manual mode and back to get it out of paddle/manual shifter mode as I didn't know how long it would take for it to reset.

Plus (+) to go up a gear and Minus (-) to go down a gear. On the paddles the right shifts up and the left shifts down. I think if you slip the shifter to the right then push up to increase the gear and pull down/back to decrease gears. Slip it back to the left to put it back in auto mode.
