Default 2006 a4 2.0t

Hello All. Im a new owner of a 2006 Audi A4 2.0T. I was wondering if any of you would know what to look for mechanically with the car to prevent long term and short term issues. Thanks for your help and patience.

Just read through the forum and you will learn alot. The main issues for our cars are:

1. Oil consumption: Some cars seem to use more oil than others . Hopefully you get one that doesn't use much (mine goes through less than a quart every 7500 miles).

2. Cam follower has been an issue for some. It is now covered under an extended warrenty.

3. Timing belt change: Expensive, but needs to be done to prevent in more expensive damage to the engine. Check your owners manual for the mileage.

4. PCV and Diverter value: Lots of posts on these two items. Low cost parts and fairly easy to replace (I couldn't manage the diverter value myself, but did chnage the PCV).

Welcome.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't the 2006 A4 2.0T engine sport a Timing Chain?

Not sure. A google search shows both chains and belts.

I'm thinking Google (or the results produced by Google) are very much mistaken in this case.

My 2.0T engine has a timing belt (as did the 1.8T before it) which the maintenance schedule says to change at 75k miles. However, if you do a search for "timing belt" in this forum, you will find countless threads that state the interval was a misprint and generally people agree you should change it around 100k miles or shortly after (applies only to the 2.0T engine--I think the 1.8T had a shorter wear interval).

Perhaps Google is confused because I believe the 3.2L naturally aspirated engine has a timing chain. This thread was about the 2.0T, though.

Yeah, I thought Google was crazy until I noticed I can actually order a timing chain from some of the sites for a 2.0 2006 Audi A4.

Example: 2006 AUDI A4 2.0L L4 Turbocharged : Engine : Timing Chain has a picture of a timing chain.
Link: RockAuto Parts Catalog

Probably just used the wrong terminology and a generic picture of a timing chain. The others showing are for V6 engines.

The timing chain started for the A4 B8 2.0T (2008+) if I am not mistaken.

After thinking about this for a couple of days, it seems clear to me that the 2006 A4 2.0T engine has both a timing belt (to link the crank with the head) as well as a timing chain (to link the two cams). Assuming I got it correct (I've never been inside of the 2.0T mill), then that explains why both a chain and a belt are available for purchase for the OP's car.
