Default XM Radio Tuner

I want to get XM for my SAT button. I understand you need to install a tuner to do this. How much do you think would it cost me for the dealer to install? And, If I do it myself using that tutorial that's floating around, where's a good place to buy one (the one where it shows up on the drivers display what song is on) ?

Im pretty sure the 04's were prewired for it. You may also have to swap over a connector in the lower passenger side a pillar.

You need to have the module installed in your trunk, you can either get a sirius or XM module. I would go with sirius IMO. The module costs $500 and it goes behind the panel on the driver's side trunk, the car is already pre-wired so its just plug and play. You also have to take off the passenger's side kick panel and swap the pink connector over one spot to complete the circuit.
Then just call either XM or Siruis and activate the service.

04's are prewired. I installed a sirius tuner (wife's choice) in my 04and you just need to hook it up and move a plug over in the passenger side "footwell" actually. Here arethe write ups for XM and Sirius. The Sirius one shows how to move the plug over.

Oh and FWIW, I found my module on fleabay for about $150.00 Definately don't source a new part form the stealer if you don't have to.

Thanks! Yeah I just got off the phone with the dealership and they estimated 600-700$ for parts&install. What a ripoff.
Any chance you can point me in the right direction for the correct XM Tuner which can display the names of the tracks on the driver display?

It only displays the channel number and name in the MFD, at least on my sirius unit. It will display the rest fo the stuff on the radio display itself. I don't know if it's possible to do what you describe.

Update!
Had XM installed today.

100$ for the XM module (brand new off ebay) and 108$ for installation at the local audio shop.
208$ total for what audi dealer wanted 700$+ for.
Beautiful.

Many thanks to B6er for the excellent XM DIY guide & CAN BUS walk through.

I have a similar desire to add the XM module to a 2008 A4 Cabrio, and am hoping someone can confirm the XM model for the 08 A4 without RNS-E and without tire pressure monitoring system I should be looking for.

I have found the Sirius pre-wire bundle in the trunk space, so I understand I will need the Terk splitter for the dual input XM module.

Also confirming the CAN BUS connector will need to be reassigned to tell the Symph head unit that SAT is installed (SAT has never been installed in this vehicle) & it is still located in the passenger kick-panel area?

If pre-installed and without having to trace the antenna lead, I am also very curious where the actual SAT antenna is mounted on the convertible...? or..
