Wobbling/vibration on acceleration- My fix
I've read a lot of threads about wobbling during acceleration only, and the replies are always to check the first few things (cv boots, axles, etc...) which is the way to troubleshoot this problem.
I just wanted to share my situation in case it might help someone who is overlooking something simple.
my 02 3.0 Quattro would shake pretty bad (from the rear) on acceleration only. i jacked up the rear and took the suspect wheel off and inspected all the components, and everything seemed fine. no torn boots, no axle grease all over everything, nothing obvious.
so i took it to my trusted mechanics, and they put it on the lift and put it in gear. the back 2 tires wobbled while the front 2 were steady. the next logical step was to swap the wheels to the front and see if the problem followed. it did. they took my full size spare and changed one of the wheels and now it's better but not completely gone. so i'm still gonna be in the market for a new wheel or 2.
but i just wanted to throw that out there if you have this problem, check to make sure your wheels aren't warped/bent.
the thing that pissed me off was I just had the wheels balanced when i got new tires, and they didn't say anything. this wasn't at my trusted mechanics though, which is why it doesn't surprise me. they tried to compensate by putting way too many weights on the wheel.
