Unhappy Wiper arm/blade problem driving me insane. Please help!

Hi,

I just bought a used 2003 A4 Avant Quattro and I'm trying to get the basic things for daily driving into shape (and working wipers are a must for Calgary weather). This is my first Audi, so I know very little about it. Anyway, I went to my mechanic to get an oil change, and asked him to also change my three wipers (two in the front, one smaller one in the rear).

I think the guy he got to do it is a total idiot, because he came back saying the wiper blades "won't stay on." Upon closer inspection, I saw that he broke the little plastic hooks that hold the wiper blade in place at the centre. I got pissed off and left...so now I have no wiper blades at all.

This is what the wiper arm looks like with the wiper blade removed. As you can see, the tip with the button is plastic. On the underside, there are small hooks that are supposed to hold the wiper in place. One of the little hooks is broken...on both sides.

I can get the rear blade at the dealership on Monday, but I'm concerned about the two front wipers, because to mount new blades I now need to figure out this goddamn plastic piece with the button in it. According to the manual, it seems to be a part of the wiper arm (part C in the diagram below), but I can't find it on any auto part websites and now I'm getting depressed because it's starting to look like I may need to replace the whole goddamn arm!

Does any of this make any sense?

had the same thing happen. I used zip ties for the mean time. I upgraded to aero blades over time though.

Oh, man. So I'm not the only one, eh? Thanks for confirming! I actually just found the Aero kit on the ECS Tuning website last night. Perfect!

you push down on that raised bump and the top part pops up and releases the blade.

its probably one of the easiest ones audi has ever made, lol.

but if its broken now......

You have to consider Calgary weather. When it happened, it was -27° or -30°C. The plastic was really stiff. Anyway...

Anyway, thanks for the advice, pa4ul. I went the zip-tie route for now:

I also ordered that Aero Wiper Conversion Kit for USD $139.95.

Well, I don't know if anyone still cares, but, at long last, I got my Aero wipers from Germany and—per pa4ul's comment—they are goddamn incredible!
