Will this chip work?

Will this chip work?
There is a 2001 1.8T APR tuned ECU for sale. I'm not sure if that is B5 or B6. I have a 2004 B6 CVT 1.8T. Will this chip work with my car? If it is a B6 chip, but for some reason will not work due to the year, could I take it to an APR shop around here and have them reprogram it for my car?
Thanks for the help!

No its a different box. Otherwise I'd sell you my fully loaded one for $550
B5=1996-2001
B6=2002-2005
But even if its still a B5 chip going into a B5 you have to make sure that its the ATW, AWM, AEB etc etc... engine codes and box codes have to match. Same goes for B6's. You can't use the chip off a 2004 1.8t 6mt. They're all mapped different.

They're all engine codes and box codes to tell differences in hardware and software. Here goes:
Box codes:
97-99.5= DBC
00+05= DBW
Engine codes:
~97-99.5= AEB (these are the engine you always hear people swapping blocks/heads for and 20mm wrist pins. They also have thicker rods. 058 block & ext. WP)
~00=ATW (058 block & ext WP, although they did come with a MAP sensor)
~01=AWM (016 block, int WP)
~02+=AMB (016 block, int WP)
The 01's and B6's are as much alike mechanically as possible. The engine codes change due to exhaust and intake differences. But besides that they retain the same block & guts along with the 170hp 8-finned K03s.
Also, you can find the engine code on a small tab on you valve cover by cylinder #1 (next to your timing belt) There it should have the letters A-M-B imprinted. Hope this helped
