Whats different from 2002-2004
in looking for an a4 B6, will be ready to buy by february or so, but what differences are in those years? like looks or anything.. looking for a 1.8 , would 3.0 be more reliable? thank u

3.0
I believe the cars are the same the only thing that will differ I believe is the packages the car comes with, sport package ect...
I was going to go with the 1.8t but ended up getting the 3.0 and I am very happy with it. the power is not even comparable between the two, plus they have a bolt on supercharger if you ever want to ge crazy with the V6.
I was just reading the reliability post in this forum and it shows the 04 is the most reliable. But I think what is most important is the milage on the car, the more milage the more problems you will have just from wear and tear.
anyways hope this helps.

For these types I would go with the 3.0 as well. Unless the 1.8t is in really good shape and has low milage and you want to start modding. I know here in Germany the B6 1.8t was pretty good although they had more hp choices for those engines (150,163, & 190hp from Audi) I do not know what the US versions had. Anyway, the 3.0 Quattro is a hard engine to beat.
Good luck!
Good luck!

I bought my daughter a 2003 A4 3.0 MT6 two summers ago (69k miles) and it has been a great car. Very well appointed, comfortable, and decent highway gas mileage. Only problem was the cats were replaced at 79k (under warranty, thank goodness) and the clutch switch throws a CEL for some reason. It has been replaced twice. Main reason for getting the 3.0 is I did not want to worry about her dealing with a turbo and the 3.0 engine provides much more linear acceleration, without the turbo surge, which I believe is safer in slippery winter conditions. The car now has 85k on it and will be getting a TB in the spring.

A stock 1.8T provides fairly linear response, actually. I barely know I have a turbo. It's really only when you start modding them for more power that you end up with a significant power surge as the boost comes in. I drove mine all winter last year, and the only scary moment I had was due to some invisible ice in a turn which looked dry - it had nothing to do with boost. That said, I would never say that the 3.0 is a bad choice; I'm just saying that turbo is not equal to evil.

actually b6 models were manufactured till 2005 (well there are year 2005 b6 models out there) 3.0 seems to be a bit more reliable then the 1.8t, however when it's time for a new timing belt it'll cost you a bit less than 3000 dollars compared to 8-900 on the 1.8t. it's hard to decide which one to go with because: first: you don't see a lot of 3litre a4's out there for sale, two: there isn't a significant power difference between the 1.8t and the 3.0. If you've been driving a b5 1.8t i'd say just go for the 1.8t b6.

170 HP for the 1.8T vs 220 for the 3.0 is not significant? That's almost 30% more power from the 3.0. Don't get me wrong, I love my stock 1.8T, but I'm under no delusion that it's in any way a fast car.

I need to test drive both too see the power diff,
True, not a lot of 3.0s out there....ill keep searching.. thanks
