Tyres/Tires
I just bought a 2003 A4 1.8t Quattro last week. I was inspecting the tires today, and I just noticed they are different brands. I am not sure if they are the same size or properties. Will having different tires in the rear to the front cause a problem in the long run? If I get them replaced, can anyone suggest good all season tires that can hold up well to hardish driving as well as rain, and perhaps some snow when winter comes?

This is only my second car, and it is by far the nicest thing I have ever owned. I just want to baby it hahaha. I just know on some AWD cars that the wear of the tires have to be about the same for all of them. I just wanted to get some help from people who know more about the car than I do! Thanks for the help though.

You're right about them all aphaving to be the same size. But the fronts being more worn than the rears isnt a big enough difference in size to affect anything. Awd and 4wd systems are built to allow a certain percentace of size difference before anything will break.

I have a sort of similar question. Right now car has 245/35/19 and i am trying to go lower to 235/35. I just bought 2 new hankook ventus v12s and wanted to know if I could replace front ones first and then in few weeks replace rear ones. Tire calculator said that difference is 1.1% between the tires.

OP - when I was in your spot I was told that there should be no more difference in tread depth than 4/32.
Also had the same issue with one good pair, one pretty worn pair. I went with all four and kept the two decent tires as potential spares. I was looking at the new General Tire, G-MAX AS-03, but couldn't get them in the size I wanted yet and I needed something. Went with the Cooper Zeon RS3-A. I have a set of winter tires so I only needed summer tires that at least won't be complete crap in case of surprise snow in Wisconsin so I could go a little more performance than true all season. We had a fairly light winter and these tires were good enough in the snow that I never put on the snow tires this year. Amazing the difference the quattro makes!
Tires have been good so far. I do a lot of highway miles and they are quiet yet will take any spirited driving I throw at them.
Good luck!
