Default Turbo replacement

I've searched the forums and found all kinds of opinions, but not really getting at my situation. 1.8T AMB motor, original K03 turbo has crapped the bed and I'm getting it replaced. Should I go with a K04? Would I have to upgrade the injectors, or will the stock ones handle a K04 w/o leaning it out too much? What would be the most bang for my buck, or any ideas you guys might have for me w/o getting too expensive?

Always find good ideas in here, thanks.

I have not gone through it myself, but from what I have read and studied if you are going to go through the expense of upgrading to K04s you should consider the fuel injectors and a properly flashed chip. Check the ECS Tuning website -- I know they have kits for 2.7T and the 1.8T is more common. I suspect it will make some serious hp over stock, but then worry about your transmission.

Thanks, I'll check them. Not too worried about the tranny, got a 5 speed.

search button can be your friend.... yes you can get a k04 for a little more than a k03.. and run just about the same power... you can get the upgrades to make the k04 worth while and be out a grand +... you can go frankenturbo and have more fun more than a ko4 or you can go with an elim and have the most power out of the 3

k04 = more power than k03
frankenturbo = more than a k04 with a nice overall powerband
elim kit has the most power, but less overall powerband

this is just off the top of my head so don't flame me for incorrect info... there is a graph that breaks down the turbos and powerbands, you will need to search for price.... and the b6 section has the most info on the frankenturbo

Default KO 4 turbo

hey does anyone know a good cheap KO4 turbo? I was thinking about buying just the turbo from ebay. Then buy the softwear and injector from AWE. Are there any good companies that sell KO4's?

this is the one I found on ebay.

IIRC, KKK is the "real" one, so that's what I'd buy. As others have said, it's not worth cheaping out on such an important part.
