Default Timing Belt what is real and what's not !

Hi

I moved this from the B6 thread above because l came in at the end! They were talking about the price of the timing belt on a 3.0 and not a 1.8T

XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

Hi

That price is really over the top but l have a question? I have a 05 3.0 vert with 17,000 miles and my wife plans on driving 20,000 miles a year mostly highway driving so if it's highway driving will her car still need to replace her timing belt at 80,000 miles?
And is the cost for a 05 3.0 the same cost as in the earlier years?
One more thing based on what l have read the cost will be in the $4600 dollar area so it will prudent for me to get the Audi extended warranty for $3000? And l also read that the extended warranty will not pay for the timing belt unless it goes! Is it possible being that she will be driving it on the highway that the timing belt could last over 100,000 miles?

Thanks

Alan

in the past two days there have been 3 threads made about this same exact topic. anyway i was quoted $1100 for a timing belt change here in NYC.

DIY kits range from $200-$500

next time just look a couple threads down.

Hi

While you are correct about so many threads about the same timing belt topic the problem is that each thread comes up with a different result as far as price and what was done besides in addition to the belt.
If you look this up under the search option you can drive yourself crazy.

The price's range from $1100 to $4600 and from an independent shop to a dealership. The higher price came from an Audi Tech here on our forum. So what l would like is an approx price from a person who had it done and what else it cost besides the timing belt. Or even break down what was done and was the problem fixed?

Thanks

Alan

well usually a timing belt involves not just the timing belt being replaced but the belts around it also, and usually the water pump as well.

here is a DIY kit so you can see whats usually changed

i think the best thing for you to do is call up a local VW/Audi shop and ask them. maybe also call up a Audi dealership around your area and see what they charge as well. I am telling you that the job will be less then $1500, even then thats too much.
