hi this is my first time posting here.

I have an 2005 A4 1.8T w/ around 74k miles on it.

have been calling around to get quotes on replacing the timing belt as its about time to do that. one guy quoted me $1250 for the tbelt, waterpump, tensioners, and serpentine which seems pretty fair. However they also suggested that its time to replace the thermostat and crank+cam seals. Do you think that these additional repairs are necessary at this time or are they trying to hit me up for some extra work? If not needed at this time, when would you suggest replacing these? Thanks in advance.

 

I would change the seals the mechanic is going to be right there so the few extra bucks is worth it. Where are you located

 

Keep in mind that dealerships have been known to do this, and when I had my mechanic friend do mine it took him about 4 hours.

 

located in northern Virginia im hesitant just b/c they want an extra 265 for the seals 235 for the thermostat. i'd rather push this off a little bit due to cash flow concerns

 

Sorry I wasnt clear in my post, what I meant to say was dealerships have done them for that price or less.

 

I had all that work done for 725.00 in New Jersey. I would ask for a recommendation from someone on this fourum that lives in your area
