thinking of buying an A4 need advice
Hi guys and girls, I was involved in a rear end collision last night. The guy that hit me left the scene and sent me flying over the shoulder. Needless to say im having a bad week. So im out of a daily driver, and came across a 2004 A4 3.0 v6, manual transmission Ultrasport. The car looks very nice and it looks like it has been taken care of. The problem, it has 135k miles, which is a lot but he is asking 8200 for it and all the service records have been maintained up to date. So please help me make a decision, thanks
Luis O
PS: it has minor mods, coilovers, giac flash and exhaust.

My advice in all these cases is to find a shop that knows Audis and pay for a thorough inspection. Negotiate down any issues. Having said that, I bought a 2003 A4 3.0 MT6 (not an Ultrasport) and it has been a good car for two years. Mileage is a lot lower than yours (only 85k now, but purchased with 69k). We replaced the cats under the 80k warranty and I have a failed clutch switch that continues to throw a CEL and cannot be cleared. Otherwise it runs real well and is a comfortable car.
In favor of your car, I would expect that many miles on a 2004 must be a lot of highway which is good. Having service records are even better. Check brake and tire wear. Make sure the timing belt and all tensioners were replaced in the 85-90k range. Take it out for an extended test drive and make sure no CELs are thrown. Make sure it tracks straight on the highway and under braking. Exercise every accessory and feature inside the cab.

Buddy I just bought a 2003 A4.....details are in my signature
I will be honest with you its been 2 months and its caused a lot of problems....you cannot be sure when buying used...no matter how many service checks....the other thing is german cars are celebrities when it comes to breaking down and having problems.....
There was an oil leak which turned out to be cam seals and cam adjuster seals that needed to be replaced...the V6 is on the B6 is super expensive to work on as Audi changed the layout and some stuff that makes it super expensive to work on...to give you an estimate...the job cost me $1300 and the mechanic would have done the same job for $600 on a 1.8T
Plus about the deal....$8700....is the guy nuts! I got mine for $6500 and its 87,000 miles (that probably explains the issues though :P )
In my opinion...don't buy it....137,000 miles my guess is you'll spend more time under the hood than in the driver's seat....i bought mine in complete temptation....and she's a real beauty...but will cause problems...so if you're willing to set aside about $2000 every year...then you should go ahead
hope it helps!

yea from what ive read they seem to be a pain to work with, however im pretty handy with cars (own 2 turbocharged cars that make me work on them often lol)
I have settled for it he let it go for 7500 and being that its ultrasport and 6 speed i think its a pretty good deal, as far as the mileage, i am taking a risk but after driving the car for a good 20 minutes it felt very solid, everything works, etc. Ill be posting some pics of it when i actually get it (sometime next week) I thank you guys for your input, i just couldnt resist owning an Audi

Same here but happy as a clam
Got my '02 A4 3.0 back in June with 72,000 miles on it for about 10K. Just turned 80,000 on my odometer and it's running great. In fact, it's the nicest car I've ever owned and I am always put in a better mood when I get in it.
The previous owner replaced a cat converter and timing belts right before I bought it so I think I'm good for major service. Just got 4 Michelin Primacies to replace the worn Pirelli P6's. One complaint is the terrible radio reception. I have the Bose system but I can barely get any nearby stations. Might have to invest in XM.
Anyway--I was really worried about getting an Audi after owning nothing but reliable Japanese makes all my 40+ years. But the quality of ride, safety, power and luxury really comes through. It was well worth the risk, I think.
