Just last night, after driving my car for awhile all of a sudden I hear what sounded like metal scraping the ground. I stopped the car, got out checked assuming I ran over something, got back in drove for less than a few feet and the AWFUL noise started. Any ideas if its the timing belt going, a rod knocking, bend vaulves or piston and above all will this come down to an engine replacement (which I cannot afford) It doesn't start right away when the car is turned on, only when its driven a few feet or so. no signs of low coolant and or oil leaking and no warning lights or check engine light came on either.

My car is a 2004 a4 audi, 1.8 turbo engine, roughly 150,000 miles give or take

 

I'm not an Audi expert, but that sounds like you have a rod knock among other things.
