Strange noise only in first gear?

RE: Strange noise only in first gear?
This is obviously a manufacturer defect. Has anyone with this issue called Audi customer relations on this issue? They should be handling this. There is a defect in these transmissions. Each of us will have to foot the bill due to this design flaw.

RE: Strange noise only in first gear?
Well I took it apart and on the 1st gear a tooth was chipped off and the small piece ran through the gear causing more damage to the rest of the first gear. Even w/ a discount I would probably have to drop 1k.

If anyone near Chicago needs any work done to their cars, feel free to pm me for a quote, bodywork/painting, mechanical, etc.....
Here is a pic of the chip,
The reason the part alone costs so much is because the shaft is connected to the gear and it's all one piece

Great job Cbass, thats a big help to us guys with this same problem to actually see the damaged part.Any chance you could post a step by step procedure of this repair for some of us that may want to tackle this ourselves (or have a buddy with some mechanical knowledge tackle it).

RE: Strange noise only in first gear?
thanks for the pic. such a small chip but it makes such a loud clicking sound. i guess changing the oil wouldnt make a difference. maybe i will just wait for my clutch to go and will fix the trans and the clutch in one go to save on labor.

Slightly old thread, but I'm dealing with the same noise on used transmission I bought and just installed. The picture posted does not show up anymore. Can that pic be reposted? The original tranny didn't have this problem so I plan on taking 1st gear from it and putting it in this new tranny. Cbass - how did this story end?
