Spitting oil
Hello all,
Okay so here it goes. While going down a pretty good grade on a bridge yesterday smoke starts coming out the back of my car (05 a4 ultrasport 1.8t). I pull over to safe spot look under the hood, and oil all over the left side of my engine compartment, exhaust everything, creating the smoke. After a little inspection I see the oil is coming out of the aluminum housing where the Cam Adustment Valve bolts to, only on the left side like there was a plug there. There's a small plunger protruding from the hole. Anyways, got towed home all safe. I removed the Cam adjustment valve to see if I could see anything on the other side, but no. Pain in the a_ _ to get by the way. After about 20 minutes getting the bottom screw in, i broke off the head. There's a little sticking out so I should be able to back it out.
Questions are, can the plug be replaced or do I need to replace the whole aluminum housing? Should I remove the housing from the head to do it? I know I'll have to remove the valve cover and replace the gasket, but that's no problem.
I'm thinking to back the broken screw out, removing the housing would be best. Like I said its a pain in the a_ _ to get to.
Thanks in advance! Clay
