Smoked heads and tails
I was thinking about getting my head and tail lights smoked. My question is, what is the best way to go about this and how dark can I go before one, not enough light will come thought and two, the cops give me ****.

I wouldn't smoke the headlights if I were you. As far as the tails go, I think a light smoking looks nice...I did mine with tint spray made for model cars followed by some clear coat. As far as how dark to go without having any trouble with visibility or the police goes, as long as you don't black them out, you should be fine. Do light, even coats and go slowly because you can always add another coat...not so easy to remove them.

Yes, spray tint on the tails is the way to go. Ihave spray tintedVW Golf tailights and they came out great (although your back-up lightswon't be as bright). I saw an ~04 Jetta yesterday with actual window (film) tint on the taillights that was all wrinkled - it looked soooooooo bad.

let me recommend this DIY from Scionlife.com, which is where i roamed when i had a scion tc before i traded it in for the A4.
Its a good DIY with good explanations with clearcoating and sanding instructions so it comes out shiny and not flat. Even though these instructions are for the Scion tC it should still apply to Tail lights in general

there used to be nice pics there showing you step by step but looks like the server hosting them doesnt have them anymore.
