Should i buy this audi? Help?
Hello, sorry for the unnecessary title but i'm going to look at and test drive this car tomorrow and i'm curious as to what you guys have to say. Looking for opinions only so don't be afraid to throw in your .02 cents. Obviously the more knowledgeable you are the better but I won't hold anybody responsible for my actions at the end of the day!
It's a 2004 Audi a4 quattro 99k miles blk/blk leather:
-cold weather pkg
-sport pkg
-5 speed manual
-upgraded turbo -- the guy says on the phone its about 2x bigger than stock but I haven't seen it yet and he says it has a heat shield covering the brand name
-Pro tuned by unknown place
-AWE catback exhaust
SOOO! my questions and concerns are as follows.
1) I don't know what supporting mods it has because this guy didn't put anything on the car but he did buy it from his dads friend so he's going to provide me with more info when we meet up tomorrow. What should I be looking for? It has no afr gauge just a boost gauge.
2) Why is this not the 6 speed model? I thought all the sport pkgs got the 6 speed.
3) He has no idea about timing maintenance, is there a way I can just have it inspected before rushing to replace it? (I'm new to audi's)
4) My assumption is that the turbo is a K04 upgrade but have not seen pictures yet so its anybodies guess. He said 2x or bigger than stock which seems ridiculous so I think he has no idea lol.
5) What supporting mods should I be able to notice if this was done the right way?
6) Also! what would you pay for this car if it turns out to be very nice?
Thanks for all the help! I'm very familiar with turbo cars just not audi's/vw's.

1) watch the boost gauge, should boost ~20 psi if has been tuned properly for a bigger turbo. If it is less than 10 psi, you're looking at stock boost.
2) dunno without looking it up
3) there is no good way to know how close the timing components are to breaking by just inspecting them. when in doubt replace everything. it is cheaper than having to buy a new motor because...valve salad
4) there is a lot more to the whole turbo equation than just "size". 2x bigger doesn't really describe anything tangible (at least not to me).
5) really depends on if/how the mods were done in conjunction with a tune. look for the obvious, FMIC, silicone hoses, upgraded DV, injectors maybe...not sure what you will be able to put your eyes on when you go to check it out.
6) Personally, based on condition, I wouldn't pay too much more than book value unless it is "show car quality" modded. then it would really depend on what has been done.
-not an expert, just an enthusiast.

i would tell him to remove the heat sheild to see the brand turbo. U dont want to get robbed later down the road with some cheap kit. I think not to sure that quattro manual were 5 speeds only someone feel free to correct me. As for other supporting mods i would check for an intercooler new diverter valve ask him to find out the brand in tuning. Im just saying its kinda shady he dosent know anything about the car or maintance. U dont want to fall on a lemon and be left with a big bill cause a improperly maintained audi will leave u broke! Can u take pics and post them up or have him send u pics?

Thanks for the input guys.
I test drove the car last night. Let me update you all.
Got there and the car was idle surging when he pulled up to meijer. Looked at the engine and turbo while it idled and noticed it was an m-24 garrett which doesn't say much. It was around .53 a/r probably. No suppporting mods aside from a cone filter intake and exhaust. Turned car off to check oil, it wasn't bad, car had no leaks.
Got in car to test drive. Started car, it turned off. Started it again, turned off again. Started it a third time and it stayed running (yayyy!! ??) Asked the owner "does that happen often?" He then proceeded to poker face me by pretending like I wasn't talking to him. I asked again and he turns over and says "are you talking to me?" I just smiled lmao.
Started driving a bit normally. First thing I noticed was the horrid exhaust drone the car had. Not my cup of tea for exhaust notes. Then I hit the freeway and FLOORED IT IN THIRD GEAR @ 3k rpm and started to accelerate on the on ramp. I hit ZERO boost with that massive turbo. The car starved for power through 5500 rpm. So i shifted and tried FOURTH GEAR, went absolutely nowhere. Car either had a giant boost leak or the turbo had serious issues, or not enough fuel.
I pulled over, told him his car was a pos and he's a **** head for making me drive an hour to come look at it and handed his keys and walked away. He then got into his car and tried to launch it via RAGE and didnt go anywhere cause guess what retard, your car isn't running right
So that's my night, it was horrible, wasted $20 in gas to my friends tank because I was going to buy the car and had $7400 cash on me.

THANKS AGAIN FELLAS!
