Serious Exhaust Problems
Hey guys, finally got some tickets (literally 2 in one week) for my expired inspection sticker. It's been overdue since last April because of procrastination and CEL. I scanned the CEL and received these codes:
P0455 - EVAP system - Large leak detected
P0442 - EVAP Emission Control Sys - Small leak
So I figure I'll check the EVAP lines and see if I can find anything significantly wrong. To my dismay, here is what I discovered:
Appears the previous owner cut two rectangles into the bend of my exhaust for god knows why.
Photo is kind of crappy but the heat from one of the holes blowing onto this hose caused it to melt open. This hose goes directly into the EVAP cannister.
To fix it, I cut the old piece out and attached a rubber hose in place held on with copper fittings.
I then wrapped some exhuast wrap (seems like tinfoil) around it and secured it with clamps.
And as you can see here and in the last picture I covered the holes with some exhaust wraps and clamps.
Too add to my troubles I also discovered this. Not sure if this is causing a leak or not, hopefully someone can help me identify what it does (I'm not a noob I swear! Just not familiar with the exhaust pieces)
Finally after all is said and done, I cleared the CEL twice and it keeps coming back. Also checked the gas cap gasket and most of the EVAP lines. Is it time to just replace my exhaust? Will these holes throw codes if they're not tightly sealed? Thanks so much guys, been coming here for a while for a wealth of information!

Catalytic Converters?
Are the Cats good? How many miles on your ride? Hate to be doom and gloom, but replacing the catalytic converters are often "deal killers." Think they're imported from the planet Krypton!
Just a thought. . .
I see the compromised and cleverly repaired Evaporative hose. I was just looking at this on my B6, but for a different reason. I've got fueling woes (as I posted just last night) and was looking that the same system for being a culprit. Not sure just yet. . .
Good luck!
