What did you do to fix your overheating issue? When i popped my hood I had a little smoke coming from the bay just to the left of the engine block in between there and the air intake hose

I am taking it in first chance I get tomorow

The smoke you describe seems like leaky valve covers. This really wouldn't cause an overheating issue if that's the case.

My overheating issue seemed to be caused by a few small issues within the cooling system that added up to be something pretty significant. I found the water pump to be freewheeling on the shaft (But not all the time), a thermostat that didn't quite open all the way and a cracked over flow tank.

Looks like it's been a awhile since anyone has posted on this thread, but I thought I would chime in. I have an 01 a4 1.8t (B5 I know), but they had the same issue. I replaced oil pump, pickup tube, chain, tensioner, cleaned turbo oil line, cleaned the oil pan and checked the head. When all was said and done, it was well worth it because it was nasty in there and the pickup tube was totally clogged. A week later the light comes back on, so I replace the oil sending unit and one oil sensor. When I checked the sensor on the oil filter housing I found that it was quite loose (at the threads). I pulled it off and setup a pressure gauge (had to run a ton of teflon tape on the threads to get it to hold). Pressure was fine, sensor is too loose to get a reading is all I can figure. I have to pull the housing and tap it.
Might be worth checking.

it was the oil pick up tube that was clogged and lots of other things wrong when I got the diagnostic test from the dealership, my engine mounts were torn, sway bar links torn, cam tensionor was dried out and leaking, all check valves were broken.

after i found all that out i sold it i didnt think it was worth fixing, the list they gave me was rather long and after looking at prices to fix some of the stuff, and I had no ac or heating as those were both broken I figured it be better to sell it while it still runs instead of waiting till it pops and can barely get anything for it. I now no longer own an audi it sucks but I will buy another one in sometime

I do hope that you disclosed the cars faults to the new purchaser.

I had an 01 VW Passat 1.8T with the same problem. I pulled the oil pan and the stupid oil pickup tube was almost completely plugged up. I took off the pickup tube and soaked it in carburetor and parts cleaner from Autozone overnight. Next day used carb cleaner to clean the rest. Put it all back together and the oil pressure was back.
Just finished putting a used engine into my 03 A4 1.8T. The old engine with 98K miles had the same issue and the "new" engine from junk yard at 87K miles had the pickup tube plugged. Very common.

Pulling the oil pan is a big job though. You'll have to disconnect the motor mounts and lift the engine as high as you can. It will give you enough room to remove the pan.

Good luck.
