Default Quick and cheap way to read the ecu codes?

I need a quick and cheap way to read the codes off a 2002 Audi A4 1.8T Auto.

I am completely new to Audi's but I have experience in working in other cars, like Honda and Toyota.

Thanks in advance.

Go to autozone and they will do it for free.

Go to autozone and rent a code reader. They will charge you $150 (the cost of the reader) but theyll give it all back when you return the tool.

That works for me!

Thank you very much. Do I need a reference of the codes or will the scanner tell me (in words) what the problem more or less is?

Also, will it allow me to clear out the codes?
