Default Possible New guy...looking for info

Hey guys, just happened on to the forums looking for info about purchasing an a4. I've recently taken a new job that has a 80mile round trip commute each day. I currently have a toyota tundra with the 5.7L engine....not good on gas. I'm looking to pick up something different and have considered a 330/m3 and this a4.

I've read and browsed around and seen some of the more common problems. Most of the models I'm looking at are 60-80k miles. What kinds of things should I expect if I purchase.

1. With the milage how is the reliability? Ive always had japanese vehicles and this will be the first euro.

2. What are the major service milestones that will be approaching and aprox. cost?

3. I'm looking mostly at the 1.8t (I may be able to afford a newer with the 2.0) Are these engines better than the larger counterparts? I'm a modding kind of guy and love power and fun.

4. What else should I know? What should I look for? Any help and advice is more than appreciated.

Thanks
Ben

i'd get a b6 or b7 with the 2.0T. the extra power potential is there and since you're a modder you'll love the potential of the great 2.0T. plus i think the b6 and b7 is worry free, compared to the b5. i keep hearing about coil pack issues with the b5s but my co-worker has a b5 and it's given him no problems.

it's not pure power, but drivability and fun to drive when pushed. I found one locally with 74k miles. He's already changed timing belt and such, has APR stage 1 chip and magnaflow exhaust, eibach pro kit, and a short shifter. it is CLEAN by looks.

i drive an 03 a4 3.0 with 79K on it, and i drive 100 miles a day round trip for work. in addition to that, i also drive out to a lot of client appointments and my mileage per month is through the roof...

zero problems... great car! A+ all the way....

How difficult is the timing belt/water pump and all that to DIY?

Not that difficult but I'd pay someone that has done it before. If you have done mechanical jobs before is not that hard, unless you're really lazy like me, you'll pay someone...
