Can anyone tell me which check valve would most likely be related to the temperature being cold?

That would prob be your coolant flange leaking, or possibly a bad thermostat, or coolant temp sensor.

I found a tear/crack in the hose that connects wht lookes like a Blow off Valve to the top rear of the engine. I think its recirculates the blow off into the engine. The host as three openings, and gives a high pitch sound when I driev off hard or go up a hill. How much does that part usally cost is what is it called. Perhaps that has something to do with the vibration. I was planning on ductaping it until i get it replaced next week.

you mean the breather hose?

This is an open recall for our cars. go to a dealer and they will replace for free.

Vac leaks can cause anything from poor idle to limp mode. Replace the vac hoses if they have holes (it's 3.5mm or 4mm works) and clear your codes.

The check valves rot on the outside and get holes in them causing them to leak. You can see if theyre bad just by looking at them.

great so a check valve probably isn't my problem then because i've checked every square inch of that motor for cracked tubing, etc. But when i get it back I will check again. Also i forgot to mention that in addition to my rough idle being worse on colder days the car also is sluggish and slow to respond when the motor is cold on cold days.

I see you have not yet checked the 'knock sensors'. You may not be getting equal combustion on all cylinders. Each sensor monitors two cylinders and they can be scanned in the computer. An electrical reading should be taken at each sensor when the engine is cold and when it is hot. Readings should be equal (about 1 volt).

interesting...i will have to get someone to check that for me. I took it to audi so i'm guessing that they would have checked that when they had it plugged in. The only thing that they told me when I took it to audi was that I had worn motor mounts. I am going to sea foam the car when I get back from another mechanic yet.
