Over 85MPH steering wheel shakes?

Default Over 85MPH steering wheel shakes?

Do I just need an alignment?

My steering also feels as if it is a little loose, always not just when I'm going very fast.

Have the wheels balanced before anything else, they should also be able to tell you if you have a bad tire. Just make sure to tell them you have a front end shimmy.

^^ Look at the tires, but have them look at the tie rod ends and control arms too...

Get new tires and balance them... Bet that's your problem.

To check to see if it's the tires, just rotate them.

If the shake goes away or changes, it's the tires.

Thats not good advice. Using your example it could be a wheel out of balance too, rotating the wheels isn't a good way to diagnose a bad tire, putting it on a high speed balancer is the best way to find a seperated bead or bubble in a tire.

Default Shaking steering after MPH

This could be as simple as over inflated front tyres, check that first before tinkering deeply!

you could also have a screw or nail inside of the tire causing this. i had a similar problem with my golf. the vibration was noticable more and more and finally the tire popped. with the new tire on, it's perfect. no vibration or noise.

Probably was a broken belt, that would have to be one BIG *** bolt to cause a vibration. Of course running over a bolt could mess up the belt.
