Need clutch/flywheel suggestions
Hey my clutch is going out and I'm sure there is hot spots on the flywheel. The car is 2003 1.8t Quattro 5spd, 105k miles....I am going to assume that it is the original clutch.
The dual mass flywheel is way expensive and I want to know the pros and cons of switching to a solid mass flywheeel.
What are some good affordable Kits I can get?
The car is a daily driver and I am not looking to mod it up at all.

Pros to going single mass
better throttle control
engine rev's quicker
cons
If you go too light you will have gear rattle and will need to rev up the motor more to get moving.
So if you go LWFW try to stay with the heavier flywheels which will be Steel.
I offer clutch kits and clutch/flywheel packages for the A4 1.8t.
If you have questions feel free to PM, email or call.

LWFW = Light Weight FlyWheel.
You will have some gear rattle if you go with an aluminum flywheel or a really light weight steel flywheel. If you dont want gear rattle go with a heavier steel flywheel.
The CM 240mm 1.8t clutch/flywheel setup uses a 19 lb flywheel and it has no gear rattle.

okay, now while I am down there is there anything you'd suggest to switch out while I am already there and haven it taken apart?
Have you ever done a clutch yourself? How long and difficult is it? Is there any special adjustments that need to be made? (Not so sure cause I think its hydraulic clutch and I've had experience with clutches with cables)

Yes I have, many times just on my own A4.
I actually do test fitting for Clutch Masters when it comes to the A4 1.8t clutch/flywheel setups. 2 of the kits I offer were custom made for me and I tested those myself too. My car has been a R&D and test car for clutch kits for about 10 years now. Started off with my friend making me a custom clutch back in 2001, when no one else offered a clutch kit for the 2000. That clutch was sold as the Werks of Arts clutch kit for a few years, not around any more but I was using those custom clutch kits up till 2009 when it blew up while making 650whp.
I actually just pulled my clutch/flywheel out today, took me about 1 hr to do that myself with the car on 4 jack stands and just using 2 floor jack stands.
There are no adjustments to be made, well other then bleeding the slave after your all done if you unhook the slave vs just taking it out of the transmission housing with the line still connected.
If you do remove it, when you go to put the transmission back in make sure to leave a 1
to 2" gap between the transmission and the block to allow the slave to slide in easier. It also makes it easier to line up and get it into the fork.
Normal book time on a clutch removal and install is about 10 yrs. Normal time is about 6-8 hrs and someone that knows what they are doing can do it in about 4-5 hrs.
The hardest part usually turns out to be just getting the exhaust/down pipe out.
