Adding a photo of the placard on the bottom. A mechanic friend took a glance at the photos and guessed E-Vap canister. Haven't opened it up yet.

Found the answer... this is the evap canister which usually sits just forward of where it is now, in the metal dimple that the spare tire sits on (removed).

Anyone in the market for a gigantic trunk bottom sub enclosure?
