Default Just bought a 02 A4 with power stearing issues

Hey everyone I just bought this 2002 A4 3.0 quattro automatic at the auction with 119000 miles on it.It runs and drives great, just the power stearing is messed up. it works when it wants to sometimes at idle other times going down the road. I did the search option on here and read about checking the clamps on the hoses for leaks. But from what I have seen so far there isn't any leaks. I guess i'm just looking for some input since i'm new to the Audi. Anybody have any ideas?

The steering rack is a common repair on our cars. Make sure there is fluid. If there is it may be the pump.

Thanks for the reply. I will be able to get a better look at things this week when I get it up on stands..I think i'm going to pull the nose off and change the timing belt just to give me that warm and fuzzy feeling since it has 119000 miles on it..

Check the fluid, if it's missing top it off, then look for leaks. The clamps is only when the car is making a whining noise at colder temperatures, if it isn't doub that's your problem, If your fluid is "dissappearing" then check the little boots where the steering linkage connects, that's where the leaky fluid collects sometims.
