Default Intermittent Start/Stall problem

Before anyone brings it up, I did search extensively, but didnt find anything matching my exact problem.

2003 A4 1.8t Quattro 5spd

I just bought the car and didnt even have the problem happen to me until my wife mentioned it.
Intermittently immediately after starting, the car stalls. Its a manual trans and I have the car in neutral with the clutch pushed in. Once I start it again its fine. Like I said, it completely starts, and runs at about 1000rpm and then it immediately drop to 0. Its not like its just not starting at all. The engine is definitely running for a second or two.

well I really have no experience with German cars, but if I was diagnosing a GM the first thing Id suspect is the fuel pump. I plan on doing some power upgrades soon, so maybe I'll just replace the fuel filter and upgrade to a walbro 255 and see what happens.

Is that the same as a crank position sensor?

There are no codes...

No. That's the first thing I thought of though. Try to get a new one this week.

I would start with that. Check the pressure at the fuel rail by depressing the schraeder valve on the firewall end with the ignition switched on. There should be a pretty good spray. If there isn't much pressure it's either a bad filter or the fuel pump. There are write ups on the filter and the pump either at audidiy.com or possibly on audizine.

good call shane, but I think Id rather hook up my fuel pressure gauge than just let it spray everywhere, lol.
