Default Help me out guys! "loose" suspension noise

Ok, I know I read about this just recently, but I can't find it to save my life. I've noticed lately that my suspension is making a lot of noise (like washers loose on a bolt) when I hit any bump. This is at slow speeds (5mph) and high speeds (80mph).

I can't remember what the problem turned out to be, so if anyone can help me out, I would greatly appreciate it.

Mike

So it is kind of a clanking noise, sounds like theres a metallic tone in there? Sounds like bushings on your sway bar links to me (the c shaped pieces with two bolts that connect the sway bar to the wheel carrier). Deeper clunk or squeek = control arms.

Ok, so I was listening to it more on my way home today, and its more of a high pitch squeak. It seems to be coming from only the front (both sides).

Does it squeek when you turn the wheel?

No, it doesn't squeak when I turn the wheel....only when I hit a bump, or crack in the road.

mmm im not sure that could be a couple things, ball joints at the ca, struts maybe, maybe someone else will chime in. Try pushing on the hood to get the car to bounce up and down and see if you can pinpoint it that way.

I tried that, but I can't seem to make the noise unless I'm in the car driving.

Id take the tires of next and look for any damaged or loose joints then i guess. Spray the shocks with some wd-40 maybe if theres a little dirt there maybe they would squeek. Your car didnt bounce excessively when you pushed down on the front end did it?

Yea, I was thinking that would be my next step. The car didn't bounce much at all. The struts seem to be in perfect shape. I was thinkin maybe jack up the car and see if hitting the tires make it squeak, but it will probably be a day or so before I have a chance to try that.

Yeah it can be a real pain to diagnose that stuff. My front end is brand new and i still have this tight click pop sometimes in the front, still cant figure it out.
