Default help! headlight problems

This might be a really stupid question, but here it goes...

My '03 1.8t needs new headlights - housings and ballast. It has factory HIDs, and I have been looking around at OEM replacements, but I really cannot spend $600 on new headlights right now. I just paid a $1700 repair bill and the thought of spending that much more doesn't sit well with me at the moment.

Is it possible to use something else? Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated!

See My car has factory Halogens and I hate them I tried upgrading to Xenons and The car did not respond to the xenons they simply didn't work, only the high beam halogens work, now I am stuck with $1k worth of headlight hardware. The ballasts alone from the dealer at $700 each. and headlights $600 each. I got them online for about $600 for both Ballasts and the headlights just over $400 with shipping and everthing. WOW expensive upgrade but come to find out that the car can't even make them work without major wiring upgrades (that i know of, I tried posting to see if there was a fix for this but no response yet) If you need Ballasts & Headlight units then $600 for them all is a steal!
