Default Heater Core - Stop leak in cabin

I'm new to the forum ... I have a 2002 a4 1.8t and have a heater core leak in the cabin ... both on the driver's and passenger's side. I don't mind working on the car but the research I've done tells me the job will take well over 10 hrs, if you know what you're doing. So I'm going to bring it to a mechanic, but they are booked until next week. Is there a way to bypass the heater core and cut off flow from inside the engine. So I won't have any antifreeze circulating in the core ... I don't have heat but at least I could drive it for another week without is spewing any antifreeze over my feet! If anyone has done this, what are the parts? Can I go to autozone and do it! I would love any help!
