Picked up this car a couple months ago, its an 04 Quattro 1.8t. I have recently noticed my headlights are always on, regardless of the position of the switch. When I pull the switch to turn on the fog lights, nothing happens. On occasion maybe 1 in 3 times I drive the car I get a warning that my rear fog light is out. Also my high beams don't seem to work, when I flick them nothing happens. However when I hold the stalk in the other direction they will turn on as long as I hold it. Anyone have any ideas, things to check? Could it be as simple as just the switch itself? The switch still illuminates, if that means anything.

 

the first thing i would replace is the switch, order one from shokan.com there cheap from there, dont pay dealer price and dont get the cheap china ebay ones they break and there 10 times worse than a broken one... to get the switch out, make sure its on off (0) then push the swich in and turn it to the right and then pull out.

Bringing up my ancient post again. I got a replacement switch finally. Didn't seem to help unfortunately. What should I check next? Are there any relays associated to the headlights or anything?

 

i had a problem where my tail lights wouldnt turn off. Turned out it was the body control module. Dunno if thats any help. I got once used off a guy on audizine.
