Default Fuel Nozzle Stuck While Filling (Pics)

I filled my tank up the other day and when I went to remove the filler nozzle from my car, it became stuck. I rotated it around a bit, and tried pulling from different angles. It finally came out, but now my gas cap won't screw on properly. I noticed a flange at the bottom of the receptacle that appears to be pulled up (and I assume that's what the filler nozzle got stuck on).

Is this flange supposed to be here, or should it be completely flat?

Also, my info display is indicating that my fuel door is open, when it does indeed close all the way and lock. Does that indicator also let you know when your gas cap isn't properly installed?

I also have a steady CEL which I attribute the gas cap not properly sealing. I will VAG tonight to confirm.

Thanks

my dash display indicates fuel door ajar, It's been on for sevaral months and I do not have a MIL and it locks and unlocks appropriately through the cental locking system.

Does anyone know how to disable it through VAG?

I 've yet to explore whats behind the trunk panels, to see if theres even access to locking mechanism or security switch. Nothing is exposed on the outside. I like figure away to trick (Jump) the sensor.

I just checked out my 2004 Audi A4 and it doesnt have that huge flange its normally a small recess to drain any spilled gas, but you definately have pulled that up.

the flange is a drip catch.

I investigated behind the trunk panel, gas locking actuator only, no door sensor, I was hoping for sometype of contact switch for the gas door. So indeed its sometype of gas cap sensor. Makes no sense if I have no MIL. I would imagine the sensors works under vaccum, if I was missing of gas cap or the seal is bad it with throw the dash indicator and MIL.

Is it possible to disable the dash indicator with VAG?

the bad gas cap sensor wont show up when you scan the car in vag com. i had this problem for almost a year and it didnt show a mil, just that stupid flashing gas cap warning. The dealer found a short in the wiring under the seat. My guess is that you shorted out something when you ripped out the gas pump nozzle.
