Hi

Today l decided to put on my license plates to get ready for Spring. Since l picked my A4 up it's been in my garage under a cover.

I had no problem putting on the rear plates because the 4 screws were there, but my front license holder didn't have any screws so l decided to use two of the screws from the rear plate but the rear screws didn't fit in the front plate holder.

What gives and does anybody know the right size that l can pick up?

Was this real tough to answer. Please just take a look at the front plate screw or bolt and the rear plate screw or bolt and see if they are different.

Yeah, mine are different on the front when compared to the rear because I have a big plastic mount that holds the plate on the front. Is your plate on a mount, or is it hung directly on the bumper?

I'll measure mine. But in the mean time I would suggest taking the bolt down to a hardware store(or nut and bolt store if you have one)where they can measure and match it.

It's a big plastic black mount that is attached to the bumper. Man is it ugly and with a standard New Jersey plate is screams ugly. I had to pay an extra $50 for a better looking plate from the Motor Vehicle bureau.

In the back there is nothing but 4 holes. I will be forced to stop by a dealer for the lack of time.

This is the first time that l can remember that the front screws were a different size between the front and back.

Wife picked up 4 screws at dealer without having the car there but again this is not rocket science.
They were to large and l didn't want to force them.

 

i had the same problem when i got the car in january. the screws the used dealer used were to big and long. went to a hardware store and couldnt find a correct one, sucks. i just jammed it in there, its really tight.
