I've been having the same issue so I ordered a new engine speed sensor and went to replace it today. Got everything completed and cleared the engine codes. Started up the car and now it's experiencing multiple cylinder misfires. So I removed the new sensor and reinstalled the old sensor and had the same misfire. Anyone have any idea what could cause that?

Sorry to open this thread back up again but i just bought my first used 2004 audi a4 1.8t and upon driving it yesterday on the interstate, i felt the car stalling out on 4th gear. Then when i got home, the epc light came on and then the cel light. I googled epc and what causes it, and i've read a lot of people talking about faulty speed sensor. I went to an audi dealership and asked for a speed sensor, he then asked me if i want the left or the right one. I didn't know which one so i told him ill get back to him tomorrow. Then i went to advance auto parts to see if they carry one since audi dealership wanted to charge me $241 a piece. Advance auto parts didn't know exactly which one i need. He asked me if i need the ABS speed sensor or the other one. Can anyone help me with this problem.

 

Did u run codes? I would bet it's the MAF Sensor!

 

i did and i keep getting P02221 and P0222.

 

When i had the EPC light on with various Misfire codes *every cylinder and random/multi misfire code) I changed out the Engine Speed sensor (Otherwise known as a Crankshaft sensor). To my knowledge there is only one. The dealership was talking about the Wheel speed sensor *you have a left and right one* and not the Engine speed sensor. Hope this helps. sensor cost me under $100 at advance auto.

 

Thanks bro! Yeah it got me confused when i walked up to them and asked for a speed sensor haha. But I replaced the speed sensor and the CEL and EPC lights are gone. Thanks guys!!!

Read my post above.. Engine speed sensor (crankshaft sensor). Change it, should be good.
