I recently got the thermostat assembly changed on my a4, when it was put back together and started the car it started misfiring on idle with the smell of gas coming out of the exhaust. I have yet to get it diagnosed so I cant provide you guys with any codes. Any tips what might be causing this would help at the moment, I did not drive the car once I felt the misfire and is currently in the garage once I can get it towed to the shop.

Coil packs. Make sure they are all pushed down and then take it to the dealer. There is a new recall and the will replace them for no charge

 

oh, and its ok to drive it that way for short distances. if the dealer is not close check your engine codes (free at autozone) and replace the coilpack of the misfire. audi should then reimburse you for the replacment.

 

Thanks a lot, yeah the audi service dept confirmed that my VIN qualifies for a free service on the coils. Hopefully that solves everything

first make sure they are pushed down all the way. they can work their way up and cause misfires.
