Emission control system light

Anyone know why my emission control system light is on some days then goes off at other times, How can i get it turned off.

If it's the little light that says check engine or any light, you need to scan the car and check for codes, preferrably with a VAGcom tool but any OBDII scanner will do.

what does that look like? do you ever drive your car hard or long enough to really heat the cats up??
