Double-DIN aftermarket installation

Double-DIN aftermarket installation
Forgive me if this has been posted somewhere else, but the search engine doesn't like the term "din," too short or something. I have an '04 Audi A4 with a Symphony system installed (no Bose). Is it at all possible to install a double-DIN aftermarket stereo (like one of the Pioneer AVIC's)? It would appear that the space is big enough, but Crutchfield continues to tell me that double-DIN won't fit.
Has anyone done this? How difficult is it?

avhp-4000
i have a pioneer double din avhp-4000 350 on ebay when i bought it a year ago and i alos have a JL W3V3 with a 400 wat alpine amp with bose and it sounds amazing blows most peoples **** away. i used to have a W7 13 in with 1000/1 jl amp and that was intense. the bass was over kill but it would hit so hard. the metra kit is easy to install and you need a antenna adapter also and prolly want the ipod hook up too. if you get it installed by a shop make sure they know what there doin and don't pay more then 150 for install thats how much i payed for mine.
