Crankshaft position sensor confusion

Crankshaft position sensor confusion
Hi All,
I have a A4 3.0 2002 and have the "P0322 Ignition\Distributer Engine speed input circuit no signal" error reported.
I've been looking around the forum and it seems that this is a crankshaft position sensor malfunction (Engine speed sensor).
It seems simple enough but would I be correct in thinking:
1) The 1.8 version of the car has 1 crankshaft position sensor, located by the oil filter?
2) The 3.0 version of the car has 2 crankshaft positions sensors - 1 at the back of the engine near the drivers position and 1 under the timing belt cover at the front of the engine?
If I am correct in point 2) - which one should I swap out with a P0322 code?
Any help is appriciated...
BTW car keeps shutting off and is difficult to start and also the EPC and CEL are on.
Cheers

i did some quick research and found this out for you

seems as though there is only one and it is located at the back of the engine
also you are correct with point number 1

Thanks for that - i did see that post but other ones were confusing me as they were talking about that position and also one under the timing belt cover.
I think I will try the one under the heat shield at the back as you suggest.
Appriciated,
