coolant nightmare!

bad idea to do that on the 2.7...very bad idea...the 2.7 has a completely different way of bleeding the cooling system. check out a bentley manual, Audi has a specific machine that runs the coolant for you through the whole system before sealing it.

this
2.7T has a hex bleeder screw on top of the block. near the center, look down between the TBB and the DVs just to the right. I'm trying to think of a good way to describe it. it is kind of obvious when you know where to look. easiest to get with with a wobble and an extension 8mm hex IIRC (really not 100% on the size)
i'll try to find (take) a pic at some point

very likely air in the system. I just did my coolant flange on my 1.8T on Sunday and finally Wednesday I can say it is good to go. I used the bleeder screw on top of the engine, idled it for 30 minutes. Topped it off and then went for a drive to get it good and hot. Temp needle bobbled all over so I new it still had air in it. Got it home and let it cool and topped off reservior in the morning. Took 2 gallons of water with me for the drive to work the next morning and as expected it got hot and hit the 3/4 mark on the temp guage. I pulled over, opened the reservior so the steam and could escape and it seriously purged. I waited a couple minutes and filled it back up with water and its been pegging straight up on the temp needle ever since.
I've added G-12 for the next couple days as the reservior level was down slightly in the morning but I can finally say the last two mornings it has been dead nuts exactly where it should be.
I realize that getting it that hot isn't the best solution and clearly not the way to 'burb' the system, just trying to share the process I went through. I was prepared for the possibility of an air pocket causing me to overheat and survived it.
Good luck!

you almost have to have to bleed it with pressure unless you have some really magical trick. Do that to get all the air forced out. Only use G12 coolant as well, if you mix the red with the green its worse than the matrix imploding.. it creates coolant sludge and nobody likes that!!
