Cluster Panel All Gear Positions Light up.
Hello I'm new to this hope this is the correct place to post this. I bought a 2002 A4 Quattro 1.8t, automatic transmission I did not notice all the gears being lit up when I bought it. So when I move the the shifter from Park to Drive I see it on the cluster panel. But as it engages all gear positions are lit up and stay that way. In the last 8 weeks the car drove fine except for two separate times. when acting up, seems very sluggish, had gas pedal to floor. Giving bauged down sound when pressing the gas pedal. What seemed to remedy this is to turn it off and let it sit for an hour or two. Ive been reading up on this. Is this the TCM unit failing? no other symptoms at all. Any help would be greatly appreciated

when all the gear indicators light up like that it is an indication of the dreaded "limp" mode. Transmission defaults to 3rd gear and your car will run like sh...poorly. The vag-com can scan the transmission module and tell you what the faults are. The most common causes are a bad sensor in the trans or damage to the transmission module (TCM), usually from water. The module is located in the passenger footwell under the carpet, in front of the passenger seat.

funny thing with mine is if i put into D first it wont go into "limp" mode, but if i shift to R first it does. Then if i turn car off for about 1 minute, then shift to R its OK. Car is currently in shop to see exactly is going on. Ill keep you posted, should hear something tomorrow.
