Check Engine Light Came on
Hi everyone I have been a member for a while and it seemed like i should ask u guys because from reading past threads alot of you guys know alot about Audi's & give good advice...
Well to get to the point I have an 03 a4 1.8T 4dr with 39,000 miles Well The car was driving well until today.. I started the car and the engine started to shake only for a few seconds I gave it gas and no response... I turned the car off and when I turned the car back on it was fine but it did have a check engine light. What could it be???
I read a couple of threads and some people said that it could be becuase it was time for an overdue oil change which i was due about 3 weeks 500 miles ago..
And in another thread i read it could be a coil Pack...
I forget to mention I do have the triptronic crap on the transmission. Does anyone have any Ideas your input is appreciated

Hey i have concluded that it is a blown coil pack...
I went back and searched past threads and concluded it is a blown coil pack
I know this because about 3 weeks ago i was driving and the CEL flashed on and off a couple times rapidly and then nothing was wrong...
Now today the same thing happened but time it stayed on..
Can anyone please confirm this??
Also if i drive with a blown coil pack untile I can get it changed is it bad for the car & to tell u the truth I think it may have blown a couple weeks ago because my car does not drive as strong as it did before and when i press the gas it seems that it takes a little longer for my car to accelarate...

If one of your coilpacks is blown- you would notice it!!! Your car would be shaking a lot/ misfiring at idle and during you driving it. Its not a coilpack if your car runs ok. Maybe a bad spark plug though, but i dont really think it is.
So your are saying your car is OK, u just got a cel, right?
The whole point of a CEL is to tell the owner what's wrong with your car... Go to any Autozone, they got the special scanner for the BASIC codes, and its free. Get the code(s) and you will find out waht really happened.
P.S. Try not to be late on your future oil changes, and use synthetic oil only.

a flashing CEL is Catalyst Damaging Misfire. DO NOT DRIVE
the purpose of the CEL is to notifiy the owner of an EMISSION COMPONENT FAILURE.
if its solid, means you have a failure that may be intermittent but still is a problem. You can still drive tho.
You have concluded its a bad coil, and your most likely right. but unless you have your vehicle scanned you will not know which one. But if you have the money, replace all 4. cause it will happen to the rest

Coilpack is about 45 bucks at Audi dealer. Funny, but when my 2 coilpacks went bad the first time, i stopped but the dealer and was charged about $300. It takes 3 minutes to switch all four coilpacks. Make sure u get the one with letter R.
