Catalytic Converter/ General Maintenance Concerns
How rare is it to have the Catalytic Converter(s) fail on a 3.0 A4. Is there any way to test if they are failing? I'm stilling hoping to buy my first Audi soon, I'm just worried about dumb random problems popping up. Has there been a recall for this in the past? FYI the car I'm looking at is a 2002 Audi A4 3.0 Quattro with 81,000 miles on it. --> http://www.autotrader.com/dealers/dd...ess=&cardist=0
P.S. Does anyone have a link to a document containing Audi's maintenance schedule for a 2002 A4. I'm looking for a way to prove to a dealer that the water pump/ timing belt need to be replaced before I buy the car. I plan on talking him down from list price and doing the work myself, but on the off chance he agrees to have it done for list price, i still want to have a way to prove Audi says these have to be changed after 70K.

Cat conveters fail, thats a fact of life when it comes to cats. They only last between 100-130k. Especially on the 3.0L for some reason. So factor in $3,000 for new cats, and $2,500 for a timing belt job if it hasn't been done.
